Internet Subject Directories
- Yahoo is an Internet Directory/Index
maintained by David Filo and Jerry Yang at Stanford. It currently features
over 32,000 entries. In addition to browsing, the Yahoo catalog allows
you to search its collection, add new resources, and has its own "What's
New" and "Random Link" features.

WWW Virtual Library is a list of WWW documents compiled from requests
sent to www-request@info.cern.ch and other sites. Exploring the catalog
of resources by Library of Congress subject headings (experimental)
and geographic area are also options.

- The Argus Clearinghouse,
from the University of Michigan's University Library and School of Information
and Library Studies, is a collection of subject-oriented guides to the

the MLink Project, a public library focused gopher maintained at the
University of Michigan. Access to reference links of all sorts from

Internet Search Engines
- The Lycos Home Page is a search
engine that allows you to search on document titles and content. The
index searches document title, headings, links, and keywords it locates
in these WWW documents. I find it has more scientific and technical
information than other engines

- Excite Another search engine started
by undergraduate students at Stanford University.

- Alta Vista searches the full
text of Web documents. Can do simple or complex searches. Very comprehensive.

- Magellan An online guide and
search engine that includes original editioral content, a directory
of rated and reviewed Internet sites and a database of yet-to-be-reviewed
sites.

- WebCrawler also allows search
